The Michelin TRX Collection, first introduced in 1975, revolutionized the tyre industry by promoting a more even distribution of tension throughout the entire casing. The name "TR" stands for "Tension Repartie," which translates to "distributed tension." This innovative design was instrumental in achieving success in Formula 1 racing with Renault and Prost, as well as in the world rally championship on the Audi Quattro, 205 Turbo 16, and R5 Turbo. For the first time, the tyre and its rim worked in perfect harmony, functioning as a single unit. The rim underwent a fundamental transformation, featuring a flatter and lower flange design. This new design resulted in a gradual curvature of the casing, eliminating the 'S' shaped flexing inherent in traditional designs. Thanks to this innovative construction, the TRX tyre offers superior directional stability and makes a significant contribution to active safety, particularly when cornering.
