Innovative Construction The Michelin X tyre was the first innovation from Michelin, separating the sidewall function from the crown function. This pioneering construction enabled Michelin to conquer the world of tyres. First Adoption Lancia became the first car manufacturer to fit the X tyre as original equipment on the Aurelia model in 1949. As of 1955, radial technology gained popularity and most European car manufacturers adopted this solution. Racing Heritage The X could be fitted to cars of very different categories, from popular models like the 2 CV or Beetle to high-performance vehicles like the Mercedes 190SL or Facel Vega. The Michelin X was not officially involved in any racing, but its superiority was evident as many racing drivers adopted this tyre.
