The AIM Motorsport PDM32 represents a sophisticated approach to vehicle electrical system management, offering a comprehensive solution for powering circuits and logging critical data. This advanced power distribution module effectively replaces traditional fuse boxes and relays with a streamlined, reliable, and highly controllable system. Designed for the demands of motorsport and high-performance applications, the PDM32 simplifies wiring harnesses while providing an unprecedented level of diagnostic and operational insight.
Key Features & Capabilities
- Centralised Power Distribution: The PDM32 consolidates power distribution into a single unit, reducing complexity and potential failure points.
- Data Logging: Integrated data logging capabilities record vital information from the vehicle’s ECU, analogue/digital inputs, internal sensors, GPS module, and all PDM outputs – enabling detailed performance analysis.
- ECU Compatibility: Supports over 1000 different ECU protocols, ensuring broad compatibility across a wide range of vehicles.
- Expandability: The system is highly expandable with options such as remote input/output modules (RIO02) and CAN keypads for custom control configurations.
- Rugged Construction: Housed in a robust aluminium case, the PDM32 is built to withstand the rigours of motorsport environments.
PDM32 Power Outputs – Detailed Specification
The PDM32 features a versatile array of power outputs designed to accommodate diverse electrical requirements:
- High-Power Outputs (4): Rated up to 20A each. Ideal for demanding components such as fuel pumps or high-draw lighting.
- Mid-Power Outputs (12): Rated up to 15A each. Suitable for a wide range of auxiliary systems and accessories.
- Low-Power Outputs (12): Rated up to 10A each. Designed for low-current devices like sensors, switches, and control modules.
- Half-Bridge Outputs (4): Rated up to 35A each. These outputs provide switching capabilities for loads requiring higher current handling with integrated protection features.
The total continuous maximum current capacity of the PDM32 is 120A. Each output incorporates comprehensive monitoring and feedback mechanisms, including:
- Fault Detection: Open circuit, short circuit, high/low voltage detection.
- Fault Retries: User-definable number of fault retries with adjustable time intervals.
- PWM Control: All outputs can be configured for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to enable soft start/stop functionality and precise control over connected devices.
PDM32 Inputs
The PDM32 also incorporates a range of inputs for monitoring vehicle parameters:
- Analogue/Digital Inputs (8): Versatile inputs capable of accepting both analogue and digital signals.
- Digital Only Inputs (4): Dedicated digital inputs for switch closures or other discrete signals.
- Speed Inputs (2): For vehicle speed sensing from various sources.
Data Management Capabilities
The PDM32’s data logging functionality extends beyond simple output monitoring, capturing a comprehensive range of information:
- ECU Data: Records parameters received from the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU).
- Sensor Data: Logs signals from connected analogue and digital sensors.
- Internal Sensors: Utilises an integrated 9-axis IMU for recording orientation and acceleration data.
- GPS Data: Records lap times, position, and track mapping information (requires GPS09 module).
- PDM Output Status: Monitors current draw and operational status of each output channel individually.
- User-Defined Math Channels: Allows for the creation of custom data channels based on existing inputs.
GPS Module Option – GPS09
The optional GPS09 module provides accurate lap timing and track mapping functionality. The PDM32 database contains over 4000 race tracks, simplifying setup at new circuits. Available with various cable lengths and mounting options (roof or side entry).
Dash Display Option – 5 Inch TFT Display
This kit includes a vibrant 5-inch TFT dash display designed to replace traditional dashboard gauges and warning lamps. The display is configurable, offering a range of layouts and displaying critical vehicle information in a clear, concise manner. It can also function as a reversing mirror when paired with an optional camera (sold separately), enhancing rear visibility.
- Icon Options: Available with ‘Race’ or ‘Street’ icon sets.
- Camera Inputs: Supports up to two cameras for front and rear views.
Connectivity & Configuration
The PDM32 is supplied with a 35-pin AMP connector featuring gold pins for reliable connections. Pre-assembled wiring harnesses are available separately for simplified installation.
All PDM circuits can be configured and monitored using the RaceStudio3 software, providing complete control over system behaviour and data analysis.
