Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors - BMC B Series 101BY1S With Ignitor Electronic Ignition

Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors are designed to enhance the performance and drivability of BMC B Series engines that have been tuned with different camshaft profiles and often twin sidedraught carburettors.

The standard distributor unit can no longer provide the required ignition curve, leading to a loss of power and poor engine response. Aldon performance distributors are developed using new Lucas or Bosch units and specifically tuned to offer the correct ignition advance curve for various states of engine tune.

Most versions come with an option of having mechanical advance for engines using twin sidedraught carburettors.

These distributors provide a modified ignition advance curve, optimised to match popular camshaft upgrades. The improved ignition timing enhances power and drivability on tuned BMC B Series engines.

Additionally, many models are available with the advanced Ignitor electronic ignition system, which provides more reliable and consistent ignition triggering compared to the traditional contact breaker (points) system.

Ignitor electronic ignition offers several benefits over the standard points system. It is a fit-and-forget solution that fits neatly inside the distributor cap, preserving the original look of classic vehicles while improving reliability and performance.

The Ignitor system also eliminates the need for periodic maintenance and adjustment associated with traditional points systems.

Available Distributors

• 101BY1: A vacuum advance distributor suitable for standard MGBs and Marinas TCs equipped with HS4 SU carburettors. For later versions where the vacuum advance pipe is connected to the inlet manifold, use 101BY2.
• 101BY1S: Identical to 101BY1 but with a distributor cap that has HT leads coming out of the side instead of the top, required for some pre-rubber MGBs where HT leads may interfere with the steering column.
• 101BR1: A non-vacuum distributor suitable for tuned B series engines using camshafts like 714, 715, Piper 270, and 285, and a side draught carburettor.
• 101BR1S: Identical to 101BR1 but with a distributor cap that has HT leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
• 101BY2: A vacuum advance distributor suitable for standard MGBs and Marinas TCs when equipped with HIF4 SU carburettors, offering improved driveability while retaining resistance to 'run-on'.
• 101BR2: A distributor for road tuned B series engines using camshafts like 714, 864, Piper 270, and 285, maintaining the original SU carburettors.
