Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors are specifically designed to meet the needs of tuned engines that require a different ignition curve compared to stock distributors.
With various camshaft profiles and often twin sidedraught carburettors, stock distributors can no longer provide an appropriate ignition advance curve, resulting in loss of power and drivability. Aldon performance distributors are developed on the basis of new Lucas or Bosch units and have been tested dynamically to offer the correct ignition advance curve for different engine states.
Most versions come with the option of having a mechanical advance for engines using twin sidedraught carburettors.
The key benefits of Aldon performance distributors include:
- Modified ignition advance curve options
- Compatibility with popular camshaft upgrades
- Improved power and drivability on tuned engines
Aldon distributors offer two primary ignition systems:
1. Mechanical (points) system - This is the traditional option, which is suitable for classic vehicles where aesthetics play a crucial role. It features an original style contact breaker (points).
2. Ignitor electronic ignition - This system provides better reliability and consistency in triggering the spark compared to conventional points systems. It is also less susceptible to wear and tear, which makes it a low-maintenance solution. The Ignitor fits neatly inside the distributor cap, ensuring that it does not detract from the vehicle's original look.
Aldon offers performance distributors for different engine applications:
BMC 'A' SERIES
- 100AY - A non-vacuum distributor suitable for most tuned engines with camshafts such as Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276 and 286. This version is recommended for engines with camshaft ratios under 10:1.
- 100AYV - Identical to the 100AY but includes a vacuum advance system.
- 100AYS - This distributor has a side-mounted H.T. lead exit, designed for Sprite/Midget applications where top-mounted leads may interfere with the steering column.
- 100AYSV - This version is identical to the 100AYV but also features a side-mounted H.T. lead exit.
- 100AYP - A non-vacuum distributor that uses a later type drive dog to accommodate 'A' plus blocks in Metro engines.
- 100AR - This distributor is designed for rally and race tuned engines running on 649, sprint or supersprint type camshafts and offers improved power and drivability.
- 100ARS - A vacuum advance distributor for rally and race tuned engines with side-mounted H.T. lead exit.
- 100ARP - This version is identical to the 100AR but includes a later type drive dog for 'A' plus blocks in Metro engines.
BMC 'B' SERIES
- 101BY1 - A distributor with vacuum advance for standard MGBs and Marina TCs equipped with HS4 SU Carburettors.
- 101BY1S - Identical to the 101BY1 but with side-mounted H.T. lead exit, suitable for some pre-rubber MGBs where top-mounted leads may interfere with the steering column.
- 101BY2 - A distributor with vacuum advance for standard MGBs and Marina TCs using HIF4 SU Carburettors. This version improves driveability without sacrificing resistance to 'run-on'.
- 101BR1 - A non-vacuum distributor suitable for tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts such as 714, 715, Piper 270, 285 and a side draught carburettor.
- 101BR1S - Identical to the 101BR1 but with side-mounted H.T. lead exit.
- 101BR2 - A vacuum advance distributor for road tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts such as 714, 864, Piper 270, 285 and retaining SU carburettors. This version enhances power and drivability.
Ford X/Flow and Twin Cam (All Lucas Based)
- 103FX1 - A non-vacuum distributor suitable for X/Flow engines with side draught carburettors that retain the standard 'GT' camshaft. This distributor is generally recommended for 1100 and 1300 engines, but fitment cannot be guaranteed if the block has been extensively skimmed.
- 103FX1S - Identical to the 103FX1 but with side-mounted H.T. lead exit.
- 103FXY - A non-vacuum distributor suitable for tuned X/Flow engines using camshafts such as A2, BCF1, Piper 270, 285, Kent 234, and 244 in conjunction with side draught carburettors. Fitment is not recommended if the engine has a vacuum unit.
- 103FXYV - A version of 103FXY with vacuum advance for some X/Flow engines with twin choke down draught carburettors.
- 103FXYS - Identical to the 103FXY but with side-mounted H.T. lead exit. This is generally necessary when a pair of side draught carburettors are fitted to 1100 and 1300 engines, but fitment cannot be guaranteed if the block has been extensively skimmed.
- 103FXYSI - Identical to the 103FXYS but with Aldon Ignitor electronic ignition instead of points.
- 103FXR - A distributor for race-specification X/Flow engines. Detailed engine specifications are required for proper selection.
- 103FXRS - Identical to the 103FXR but with side-mounted H.T. lead exit.
- 103TC - A non-vacuum distributor suitable for most twin cam engines, ranging from standard to virtually full race specifications.
Ford OHC (Pinto) All Bosch Units
- 104FPY - A non-vacuum distributor for Pinto engines with side draught carburettors and retaining the standard camshaft. This distributor is generally recommended for engines where the block has not been extensively skimmed.
- 104FPR1 - A distributor suitable for Pinto engines with side draught carburettors and modified camshafts such as Piper 270, 285, Kent RL1, RL2, Burton 32, 33 or 40, 41 etc.
- 104FPR2 - A distributor with vacuum advance for Pinto engines with twin chokedown draught carburettors and modified camshafts.
