Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors provide a solution for BMC B Series engines that have been tuned with different camshaft profiles and often twin-sidedraught carburettors, where the standard distributor unit no longer offers an appropriate ignition curve.
This mismatch results in lost performance and drivability. Aldon performance distributors are developed on new Lucas or Bosch units and customised to deliver the correct ignition advance curve for different engine states.
They are available with a mechanical advance option for engines using twin-sidedraught carburettors. These distributors offer modified ignition advance curves, suitable for popular camshaft upgrades, which in turn result in improved power and drivability on tuned engines.
Additionally, they can be fitted with Ignitor electronic ignition, a more reliable and consistent ignition trigger that enhances the engine's performance and drivability.
Aldon distributors cater to various BMC B Series applications:
- For non-vacuum distributor options for most tuned engines using camshafts like Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276 and 286.100AY
- For vacuum distributor versions suitable for engines with camshafts such as Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276 and 286.
- 100AYV - This vacuum distributor version is ideal for engines with camshafts mentioned above but comes with a vacuum advance feature.
- For distributors with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top, suitable for Sprite/Midget applications.
- For distributors with mechanical advance and Ignitor electronic ignition options for engines using twin-sidedraught carburettors.
- 100AYS - This distributor features a modified ignition advance curve for most tuned engines but has a distributor cap with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
- 100AR - A non-vacuum distributor designed for rally and race-tuned engines using 649, sprint or supersprint type camshafts. It is also available for Piper 300/320 or Kent 296/310 type camshafts.
- 100ARS - This vacuum distributor version is identical to the 100AR but comes with a distributor cap with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
Aldon performance distributors also cater to BMC 'A' Series applications:
- A non-vacuum distributor (100AY) for most tuned engines using camshafts like Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276 and 286.
- A vacuum distributor version (100AYV) suitable for engines with camshafts such as Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276 and 286, which comes with a vacuum advance feature.
- Identical to the 100AY but with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top for Sprite/Midget applications (100AYS).
- A distributor with mechanical advance and Ignitor electronic ignition options for engines using twin-sidedraught carburettors.
For BMC 'B' Series applications, Aldon performance distributors offer:
- 101BY1 - A vacuum advance distributor designed to replace the original distributor on standard MGBs and Marinas fitted with HS4 SU Carburettors.
- 101BY1S - Identical to the 101BY1 but with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top for pre-rubber MGBs where H.T. leads may foul on the steering column.
- 101BY2 - A vacuum advance distributor suitable for standard MGBs and Marinas fitted with HIF4 SU Carburettors, which improves driveability while retaining resistance to 'run-on'.
- A non-vacuum distributor (101BR1) for tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts like 714, 715, Piper 270/285 and fitted with a side draught carburettor.
- A vacuum advance distributor (101BR2) suitable for road-tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts like 714, 864, Piper 270/285 and retaining the SU carburettors.
For Ford X/Flow and twin cam applications, Aldon performance distributors offer:
- A non-vacuum distributor (103FX1) suitable for X/Flow engines fitted with side draught carburettors but retaining the standard 'GT' camshaft.
- Identical to the 103FX1 but with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top for applications where two side draught carburettors are fitted (103FX1S).
- A distributor (103FXY) suitable for most tuned X/Flow engines using camshafts such as A2, BCF1, Piper 270/285, Kent 234,244 in conjunction with side draught carburettors.
- Identical to the 103FXY but with a distributor cap with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top (103FXYS).
- A version (103FXYSI) of the 103FXY fitted with Aldon Ignitor electronic ignition system instead of points.
- A distributor for race specification X/Flow engines (103FXR).
- Identical to the 103FXR but with a distributor cap with H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top (103FXRS).
For Ford twin cam applications, Aldon performance distributors offer:
- A non-vacuum distributor (103TC) suitable for most twin cam engines from standard to virtually full race.
