Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors are specifically designed for BMC A Series engines that undergo different camshaft profiles and often twin sidedraught carburettors.
The standard distributor unit tends to become unsuitable, as it fails to provide an ignition curve that matches the engine's requirements. Consequently, there is a loss in performance and drivability.
Aldon performance distributors are developed from new Lucas or Bosch units and are tuned on a dyno to ensure they offer the correct ignition advance curve for various states of engine tune.
These distributors come with an option to have mechanical advance for engines that utilize twin sidedraught carburettors.
The performance benefits include improved power and drivability, as these distributors are customized to match popular camshaft upgrades. They are also available with Ignitor electronic ignition, which provides a more reliable and consistent ignition trigger compared to the traditional contact breaker (points) system.
Ignitor electronic ignition is a fit-and-forget solution that can be seamlessly integrated into classic vehicles without compromising their original appearance. It not only enhances engine reliability but also optimizes performance.
BMC 'A' Series Applications
- 100AY: A non-vacuum distributor suitable for most tuned engines using camshafts like Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276, and 286.
- 100AYV: Identical to the 100AY but with vacuum advance (suitable for engines with compression ratios over 10:1).
- 100AYS: Same as 100AY but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side, necessary for Sprite/ Midget applications.
- 100AYSV: Identical to 100AYV but with H.T. leads coming out of the side.
- 100AYP: Uses the same advance characteristics as 100AY but has a later type drive dog to suit 'A' plus blocks in the metro.
- 100AR: A non-vacuum distributor for rally and race-tuned engines running on camshafts such as 649, sprint or supersprint type. Also available for Piper 300/320 or Kent 296/310 type camshafts.
- 100ARS: Identical to 100AR but with H.T. leads coming out of the side.
- 100ARP: Same as 100AR but with a later type drive dog to suit 'A' plus blocks in the metro.
BMC 'B' Series Applications
- 101BY1: A distributor with vacuum advance designed for standard MGBs and Marina TCs equipped with HS4 SU Carburettors. N.B. Later versions of these cars have the vacuum advance pipe connected to the inlet manifold, so use 101BY2 for those applications.
- 101BY1S: Identical to 101BY1 but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top, necessary for some pre-rubber MGBs.
- 101BY2: A distributor with vacuum advance suitable for standard MGBs and Marina TCs when fitted with HIF4 SU carburettors, improving driveability while retaining resistance to 'run-on'.
- 101BR1: A non-vacuum distributor for tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts like 714, 715, Piper 270, 285 and fitted with a side draught carburettor.
- 101BR1S: Identical to the 101BR1 but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
- 101BR2: A vacuum advance distributor for road tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts like 714, 864, Piper 270, 285 but retaining SU carburettors.
Ford X/Flow and Twin Cam (All Lucas Based) Applications
- 103FX1: A non-vacuum distributor for X/Flow engines fitted with side draught carburettors but retaining the standard 'GT' camshaft.
- 103FX1S: Identical to 103FX1 but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top, necessary when a pair of side draught carburettors are fitted to 1100 and 1300 engines.
- 103FXY: A non-vacuum distributor suitable for most tuned X/Flow engines using camshafts like A2, BCF1, Piper 270, 285, Kent 234, 244 in conjunction with side draught carburettors. N.B. A vacuum unit must not be used when an engine is fitted with side draught carburettors.
- 103FXYV: A vacuum advance distributor suitable for some X/Flow engines with a twin choke down draught carburettor.
- 103FXYS: Identical to 100FXY but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top, necessary when a pair of side draught carburettors are fitted to 1100 and 1300 engines.
- 103FXYSI: Identical to 100FXYS but with Aldon Ignitor electronic ignition instead of points.
- 103FXR: A distributor for race specification X/Flow engines. Detailed engine specifications required.
- 103FXRS: Same as 100FXR but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
- 103TC: A non-vacuum distributor suitable for most twin cam engines from standard to virtually full race.
Ford OHC (Pinto) All Bosch Units Applications
- 104FPY: A non-vacuum distributor suitable for engines fitted with side draught carburettors but retaining the standard camshaft.
- 104FPR1: A non-vacuum distributor suitable for engines fitted with modified camshafts like Piper 270, 285, Kent RL1, RL2, Burton 32, 33 or 40, 41 etc.
- 104FPR2: A distributor with vacuum advance suitable for engines fitted with twin chokedown draught carburettors together with a modified camshaft.
