The Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors are specifically designed for use in BMC A Series engines that have been modified with different camshaft profiles and often twin sidedraught carburettors.
In such cases, the standard distributor unit's ignition curve becomes unsuitable, leading to reduced performance and drivability. These performance distributors are based on new Lucas or Bosch units and have been dyno developed to provide the correct ignition advance curve for various stages of engine tune.
Most versions offer an option to include mechanical advance for engines using twin sidedraught carburettors, ensuring optimal combustion and power delivery.
For rally and race-tuned engines running on camshafts like 649, sprint, or supersprint type camshafts, there's the 100AR model.
Likewise, for applications where the H.T. leads need to come out of the side instead of the top in Sprite/Midget models, there's the 100ARS model.
For later 'A' plus blocks in Metro engines, use the 100ARP model with its modified drive dog design.
For Ford X/Flow engines, the distributor options include the 103FX1 and 103FXY models, each catering to non-vacuum distributor use with side draught carburettors on different engine modifications.
Remember that a vacuum unit must not be used when an engine is fitted with side draught carburettors.
Finally, Bosch-based units for Ford OHC (Pinto) engines include the 104FY model for non-vacuum distributors and the 104FPR1 and 104FPR2 models with vacuum advance for different camshaft modifications.
These distributors offer both reliability and performance improvements over standard units while retaining the original look on classic vehicles.
