The Aldon Automotive Performance Distributors are designed specifically for use in cars with tuned engines that have different camshaft profiles and often twin sidedraught carburettors.
These vehicles typically experience a loss of performance and drivability due to the standard distributor unit's inability to provide the correct ignition curve needed to match the engine's tune. To address this issue, Aldon performance distributors are based on new Lucas or Bosch units and have been dynamically tested to offer optimal ignition advance curves for various states of engine tuning.
Most versions come with an option to include a mechanical advance mechanism for engines that use twin sidedraught carburettors, providing improved power and drivability. In addition, these distributors are also available with the 'Ignitor' electronic ignition system, which ensures a more reliable and consistent ignition trigger than the traditional contact breaker (points) system.
The Ignitor is an easy-to-install solution that does not alter the vehicle's original appearance, making it suitable for classic cars.
Features:
- Improved ignition advance curve for enhanced performance and drivability
- Mechanical advance option for twin sidedraught carburettors
- 'Ignitor' electronic ignition system for more reliable and consistent ignition trigger
- Fits neatly inside the distributor cap, maintaining original vehicle appearance
Applications:
BMC 'A' Series:
- 100AY - Non-vacuum distributor for most tuned engines using camshafts such as Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276 and 286.1
- 100AYV - Identical to the 100AY but with vacuum advance for applications where the engine's compression ratio is over 10:1.
- 100AYS - Same as the 100AY but with a distributor cap featuring side-mounted H.T. leads, suitable for Sprite/Midget applications.
- 100AYSV - Vacuum advance version of the 100AYS, also with side-mounted H.T. leads.
- 100AYP - Uses the same ignition advance characteristics as the 100AY but has the later type drive dog to accommodate 'A' plus blocks in the metro.
- 100AR - Non-vacuum distributor for rally and race tuned engines running on camshafts such as 649, sprint or supersprint types.
- 100ARS - Identical to the 100AR but with side-mounted H.T. leads.
- 100ARP - Same as the 100AR but with the later type drive dog for 'A' plus blocks in the metro.
BMC 'B' Series:
- 101BY1 - Vacuum advance distributor to replace the original distributor on standard MGBs and Marinas TCs fitted with HS4 SU Carburettors. N.B. Later versions of these cars have the vacuum advance pipe connected to the inlet manifold instead of the carburettor; use 101BY2 for these applications.
- 101BY1S - Identical to the 101BY1 but with side-mounted H.T. leads.
- 101BY2 - Vacuum advance distributor for standard MGBs and Marinas TCs with HIF4 SU carburettors, improving driveability while preserving resistance to 'run-on'.
- 101BR1 - Non-vacuum distributor for tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts such as 714, 715, Piper 270, 285 and fitted with side draught carburettors.
- 101BR1S - Identical to the 101BR1 but with side-mounted H.T. leads.
- 101BR2 - Vacuum advance distributor for road tuned 'B' series engines using camshafts such as 714, 864, Piper 270, 285 and retaining SU carburettors.
Ford X/Flow:
- 103FX1 - Non-vacuum distributor for X/Flow engines with side draught carburettors but retaining the standard 'GT' camshaft.
- 103FX1S - Identical to the 103FX1 but with a distributor cap featuring side-mounted H.T. leads, necessary for applications where H.T. leads may foul on the steering column.
- 103FXY - Non-vacuum distributor suitable for most tuned X/Flow engines using camshafts such as A2, BCF1, Piper 270,285, Kent 234,244 and side draught carburettors. N.B. A vacuum unit must not be used when the engine is fitted with side draught carburettors.
- 103FXYV - Vacuum distributor for some X/Flow engines with twin choke down draught carburettors, if applicable.
- 103FXYS - Identical to the 103FXY but with side-mounted H.T. leads.
- 103FXYSI - Same as the 103FXYS but fitted with Aldon Ignitor electronic ignition instead of points.
- 103FXR - Distributor for race specification X/Flow engines, with full details of the engine specification required.
- 103FXRS - Identical to the 100FXR but with a distributor cap featuring side-mounted H.T. leads.
Ford Twin Cam (All Lucas based):
- 103TC - Non-vacuum distributor suitable for most twin cam engines from standard to virtually full race.
Ford OHC (Pinto) All Bosch Units:
- 104FPY - Non-vacuum distributor for Pinto engines with side draught carburettors but retaining the standard camshaft.
- 104FPR1 - Non-vacuum distributor for Pinto engines fitted with a modified camshaft such as piper 270, 285, Kent RL1, RL2, Burton 32, 33 or 40, 41 etc.
