The stock distributor unit often falls short when it comes to tuned engines that have different camshaft profiles and twin side-draft carburettors. This is due to the ignition curve no longer aligning with the engine's requirements, leading to a decrease in power output and drivability.

Aldon performance distributors are specifically designed to address this issue by being based on new Lucas or Bosch units and having been dynamically optimised to provide the appropriate ignition advance curve for various states of engine tuning. They cater to both mechanical and electronic ignition systems.

Applications:

BMC A Series Applications:

• 100AY - Non-vacuum distributor for most tuned engines, including Piper 270/285, Kent 266/276, and 286.100 camshafts.
• 100AYV - Same characteristics as 100AY but with vacuum advance (suitable for compression ratios above 10:1).
• 100AYS - Identical to the 100AY but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top (required for Sprite/Midget applications).
• 100AYSV - Same as the 100AYV but also with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming from the side.
• 100AYP - Uses the same advance characteristics as 100AY but includes a later type drive dog for 'A' plus blocks in the metro.
• 100AR - Non-vacuum distributor suitable for rally and race tuned engines, including 649, sprint, or supersprint camshafts (also available for Piper 300/320 or Kent 296/310 type camshafts).
• 100ARS - Same as 100AR but with a distributor cap that has H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
• 100ARP - Uses the same advance characteristics as 100AR but includes a later type drive dog for 'A' plus blocks in the metro.

Additional Information:

All distributors are available with the original style contact breaker (points) system, but many options also include Ignitor electronic ignition for superior reliability and consistent performance. The Ignitor fits neatly inside the distributor cap and does not alter the vehicle's appearance, ensuring that classic vehicles maintain their authentic look while benefiting from modern advancements in ignition technology.
