Originally trading under the founder's family name, “Toyoda”, the name was altered to Toyota. The Japanese characters took eight brush strokes to write, which is considered a fortuitous number in Japan.
Operations are guided by the Toyota philosophy and include five points; challenge, kaisen (improvement), genchi genbutsu (go and see), respect and teamwork.
Toyota boast the world’s best selling car by volume, with thirty-five million units sold over forty years. The Corolla is the most successful production car in history.
Toyota motorsport history has been varied including World Rally, Le Mans and between 2002-2009 operated a Formula 1 construction team accumulating five second-place finishes.
